This film runs perfectly using the GOM Media Player. Reading your review made me think you might be having a problem similar to Billbarstad's, which is described in this thread along with a fix:

I used GOM player and played them side by side. The GOM player does improve the smaller AVI file. However, The larger still has better detail and better level of contrast. The larger file does have more grain, so if you hate grain stick with the smaller file. The smaller file also has a slightly more stable image.

I guess its a toss up, although I still prefer the larger file.
